The Electrical Engineering and Computer Science group is performing leading-edge research and education in modern Electrical Engineering and Computer Science, supported by dedicated facilities.
Our goal in education is to take people with raw talent and intellect, nurture them in our environment through a thorough immersion in research and coursework, and produce well-educated researchers and future leaders. To this end, a variety of courses, labs, and seminars is offered. The undergraduate programs, leading to a B.Sc. degree, are Computer Science, Electrical and Computer Engineering, and Electrical Engineering and Computer Science. The graduate programs, leading to an M.Sc. / Ph.D. degree, encompass the Smart Systems Computer Science program and Communications, Systems and Electronics.
Research is grouped into Mathematical and Symbolic Modeling, Communication Networks and Systems, Robotics, Knowledge and Information Management Systems, Visualization and Computer Graphics, Microelectronic Devices and Technologies, and Digital Signal Processing.
We actively seek and maintain international cooperations in research and education. One particular feature are exchange programs with universities such as Carnegie Mellon University or Rice University. In addition, strong relationships are maintained to companies and industrial research labs where our students do internships and find jobs.
The high quality of the education in EECS, CS, and ECE at Jacobs University is also regularly confirmed in rankings ( highlights and achievements). In the latest 2009 ranking of the CHE, the general study situation ("Studiensituation insgesamt") in CS at Jacobs University is ranked on the 1st place among more than 80 universities in Germany and selected European institutions.
