Exchange Program with Carnegie Mellon University

The School of Engineering and Science has an exchange program with the School of Computer Science at Carnegie Mellon University (one of the top CS schools worldwide). In this program, second-year EECS students with CS specialization area spend a semester at CMU. Jacobs can send two students per semester to CMU and EECS hosts the same number CMU students. The exchange program will be administered by the Office of Career Services & Exchange Programs (OCSEP) at Jacobs and the Office of International Education on the CMU side.

Application and Deadlines

The application deadline for the Fall semester 2006 will be announced in the Spring semester. Applications should include a CV, a letter of intent (why do you want to go to CMU), and the current Jacobs transcript. Later, CMU requires a TOEFL score of 550 or above, so you may also submit that as well (details). Application materials should be sent to the OCSEP. A committee of three CS faculty will then evaluate the applications and create a ranked list for Carreer Services to admit students to the exchange program.

Courses and Equivalences

We will publish a list of course equivalences to ease planning and credits transfer. In the meantime, you can find a course list of Computer Science at CMU here. In general, we translate 2 CMU credits into 1 ECTS credit.

Exchange with Rice University

Several Jacobs University students have already visited Rice University for a semester or even longer even though there is no formalized exchange procedure. Students interested to exchange with Rice University should contact our visiting Faculty members from Rice.

Courses and Equivalences

In general, we translate Rice credits by multiplication with the factor 1.5 into ECTS credit points.
